Interest in virtual reality (VR) is growing and with major brands like YouTube and Facebook developing platforms to support 360 videos, VR is becoming more and more accessible to the general public. According to the International Data Corporation, by 2021, the firm expects the Canadian virtual reality sector to reach $7.1 billion.
Live action VR production is a comprehensive 8 hours workshop that empowers filmmakers with the knowledge and skills required to create their own live action VR experiences. The course will cover: The equipment, tools, and platforms utilized in the new medium through the challenges and process of creating Spotlight Effect – a VR live action series. This workshop gives students knowledge of the work process of creating content in the new medium, focusing on how to film, edit and publish live action VR and 360 videos.
This online workshop will span over four meetings (two hours each) and will include up to 20 hours consultation on the personal project of the student:

#2 VR: How does it work? Equipment, software and platforms
#3 Directing and Editing in Virtual Reality
#4 The viewer’s roles in VR stories
Instructor
Originally from Israel, Yael gained her experience in Virtual Reality as the house editor in InceptionVR, a VR content and distribution company with branches in L.A, London and Tel Aviv.
She finished her bachelor degree with honours in Cinema and Communication from Seminar Hakibutzim college in Tel Aviv. Her short film “Awakening” was nominated in Haifa International Film Festival 2013, and her play “The story of Yalla and Rega” won the writer’s award in Haifa International Children’s Theatre Festival 2015.
After writing and creating for cinema and theatre, Yael was fascinated by VR as a totally new medium through which she could tell stories and engage audiences. She created a VR fictional series that gained funding in Israel and will be published at the beginning of 2021.
Since her relocation to Toronto, Yael has been working as a freelance VR editor and VR consultant for various Toronto based companies.
Yael is sharing her knowledge and expertise with students and VR enthusiasts as a VR instructor at George Brown College, LIFT and TIFF youth summer program.
